Day Two of the Convention

Yeah, I know I’m late posting. It’s been so fast paced my head is swimming and my mind is struggling to keep up.

So here’s a written recap of Saturday. Pictures will be in subsequent posts. Why? Because I am tired and lazy and have the iPad up with the keyboard for easier writing. All the pictures are on the phone and I’m too lazy to transfer them - I’ll just upload directly.

Jon and I woke up at 5:10. Shawn had awakened a bit earlier to shower. Both Jon and I preferred to get it out of the way Friday night and sleep a little later. Anyway after getting our still tired selves somewhat together we headed down for the hotel breakfast. This is not your typical ordinary hotel breakfast. Ham, turkey, a hard cheese, a soft cheese, watermelon, honeydew, fresh pineapple, mango, scrambled eggs, pancakes, quiche, sausage & onions in some sort of sauce, about 8 different types of pastries, 3 different types of sandwich bread, 4 different types of rolls, yogurt, a fruit medley of some sort, oatmeal, granola, 3 or 4 American style cereals, 2 juices, coffee, warmed milk for the coffee and tea. That’s all I can recall off the top of my head! There’s a toaster and a panini press to make a breakfast sandwich. A couple types of jelly, salted AND unsalted butter. Obviously, we all left satisfied.

Bus trip to the SP Expo was a little longer today as the driver couldn’t get over to the exit lane and missed a turn. Shawn took the opportunity to rest his eyes a bit. He couldn’t really sleep as a couple sisters from Florida decided it was time for a sing-a-long. I’ll discuss morning sing-a-longs later when we talk about Sunday morning’s bus ride...

Of course the program was wonderful and we muddled our way through meeting many more friends. One of the easiest ways was a smile, a hug, reading each other’s name tag, trading a gift and me using my thumb and pointer fingers to show ‘a little bit’ and saying Português and them saying the same about English. Occasionally we’d use a translation app, but mostly it was just basic love.

The baptism talk was given by Bro. Gary Breaux. It seemed the stream of candidates and the applause for them wouldn’t end after the talk. The baptism was finally complete about 10 minutes before the afternoon session began. On Sunday we learned that there were 291 baptized in SP and with the 42 other regional conventions tied-in there was 1734 baptized!

The bus snafu of Friday evening was cleared up nicely and we arrived back at our hotel just after 6pm, instead of 8pm like the night before. The 3 of us went over to the Ibirapuera Mall and had Italian food at Pecorino Restaurant. Oh, my was it good! All of the pasta was freshly made. Then Shawn and I had gelato for dessert. Mine was chocolate/chocolate chip and it was much more of a day chocolate variety which made it very good - not too sweet. Shawn’s was pistachio. Of course he finished both of them. Headed back to the hotel and back to bed.

That’s Saturday in a nutshell. I know I’m a day behind, but maybe I’ll catch up tomorrow morning. We’ll see. Love you all and I’m so glad you could come with us!!
