It’s Not Field Service, It’s a Party!
The title for this post came from a Brother at the Kingdom Hall today! He expressed it well! We arrived at the Kingdom Hall (Ibirapuera Congregation) for service. The meeting was conducted consecutively in English, Português, French and Spanish. Ps. 110:3 was the verse we considered. A final prayer was said in Português and off we went with our one partner to the territory. It was all walking and there were friends every block. I ended up in a group - my partner Marina has an 8 year old son Benjamin. Also another sister was unable to come, so her partner Christina joined us. Benjamin is the only child in the entire congregation! They have about 100 publishers. The love, attention and care he receives is beautiful! The entire congregation is raising him! The next oldest in the congregation is 17 year old Nathan, who was Jonathan’s partner for the morning. Below is a picture of Nathan, Jon & Benjamin -
Christina is widowed and also lost a daughter in death 14 years ago. She was born in Germany and teaches it here in SP. She is also fluent in Português and English, although she hadn’t used her English in quite awhile. She served as interpreter between Marina and myself :) Marina knows a little English and I know virtually no Português (unless I see it written). So between Christina and Google Translate we had a great morning. We didn’t see Shawn all morning and wondered how he was faring - he worked with Francisco and neither spoke the others language! Again, technology helped them out and they enjoyed the morning together!

And then it was time for lunch...So much I had never tasted or ingredients prepared in such different ways than I’m used to. It was delicious - including the fish soup! My husband was a champ! He isn’t a picky eater, but isn’t adventurous when it comes to food. He now belongs to the “clean plate club” on two continents!! 😂 He ate everything he put on his plate and went back for seconds. One thing he didn’t put on his plate were the black eyed peas. He won’t believe me, but he missed out! It was a cold salad and I’ve only ever had them hot. The pineapple, fresh coconut cake with whipped cream frosting was soo yummy. 😋
The friends then played music and sang for us “How Do You Feel” each time with the chorus in our languages.
Here is a video Marina sent me tonight of Benjamin trying the Pop Rocks Jonathan gave him. Enjoy and smile with Benjamin! Off to bed - Convention starts tomorrow and Bro. Herd is here!
